Project Description:
This performance is a Thai slang version of Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, presented as a staged reading. This adaptation reimagines the iconic love story through the lens of Thai internet culture, using contemporary slang, memes, and playful language to make the classic text accessible, humorous, and socially relevant.
Set in a world where “Juliet” becomes Janchai, a glam-loving heiress, and “Romeo” transforms into Phumet, a down-to-earth heartthrob with dot-com pick-up lines, the piece explores love at first scroll, impulsive decisions, and digital-era drama—with a distinctly Thai twist.
This performance was part of the “Open Theatre Project” under the course Performing Arts Management Practice, and featured a 30-minute reading followed by a post-show discussion on adaptation, language, and cultural resonance in modern theatre.
